Killarney Golf and Fishing Club plays host to the 2011 Irish Open for the second consecutive year. This must be one of the most picturesque venues we travel to on the European Tour, especially when we are greeted by the sunshine on arrival on Monday.
Monday proved to be an extremely quiet day at the venue with players travelling from last week’s tournament in Sweden. This continued in to Tuesday with players experiencing travel delays after they participated in a Pro-Am in Copenhagen.
By the time Wednesday came around, the whole course was buzzing. Big crowds arrived to witness the Pro-Am. Home crowd favourite, Rory McIlroy (FJ Sport shoes & Pure Touch glove) was centre of attention, as he played with his dad Gerry, and the Irish Prime Minister, Enda Kenny.
FJ ambassador, Ross Fisher (DryJoys Tour & Pure Touch glove), is the defending champion, and will be looking to regain some of the form that carried him to glory last year. Soren Hansen and Brett Rumford, both FJ ambassadors, are also past winners of the event.
FJ collar wearer, Steve Webster was in fine form, and his creative mind was in gear. He placed an order for some MyJoys, including the newest FJ ICON style which was recently introduction into the MyJoys programme. Some of his creations were; FJ ICON MyJoys wave pattern with a white base and purple smooth wave, FJ ICON MyJoys shield tips in a silver base and white smooth saddle and accents & FJ ICON MyJoys traditional pattern in a white base & blue patent saddle:
Steve also topped on his FJ ProDry sock collection, and added a couple of the new FJ Base Layers to his wardrobe, and the all important FJ RainGrip glove to his golf bag, just in case there is a drop of rain in Ireland.
FJ ambassador Liam Bond got to have a sneak peak at the new range of FJ shoes for 2012. He loved the look of the new designs, and one of the perks of being a European Tour player is you get to wear the shoes before they hit the market place. His will be with him in the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for a Liam gracing the fairways in the 2012 FJ range.
The European Tour team now get to have a 2 week break as the players head over to the US for the final Major of the year, and the WGC at Firestone. We'll catch up again at the Czech Open in 3 weeks time.
FootJoy was once again the preferred shoe choice with 63% of this week’s field lacing up in FJ shoes.
