The Championship is a 72-hole stroke play team event with each team consisting of two players who must have been born in the country they represent. The first and third days are four-ball (best
ball) play and the second and final days are foursomes play. A total of
28 teams, each one of different nationality, are competing in the 2009
Omega Mission Hills World Cup, most of which feature stars from the PGA and European Tours including Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Nick Watney, John Merrick, Robert Karlsson, Henrik Stenson and Ryuji Imada. Stenson and Karlsson won the event last year but will face strong competition from several teams, including England (Poulter/Fisher) and the United States (Watney/Merrick) who aim to win a record 24th title for the U.S.
