Ten time PGA Tour winner and Masters Champion Zach Johnson is no stranger to closing the deal down the stretch of big events against the world's best players, and this weekend he did not disappoint. Four strokes down with eight holes to play, Zach Johnson birdied four of seven holes to tie for the lead heading to the eighteenth.
Then, from the middle of the fairway on the final hole of regulation, Johnson inexplicably hits his eight iron approach into the green front hazard. Recomposing himself and taking his drop at 58 yards, Johnson, who is widely regarded as one of the best with a wedge in his hands, holes out the shot to save par and force a playoff!
On the first hole of the playoff, Johnson played the 18th with much less drama, hitting the fairway, and green and two putting for a par. His playing competitor would fail to get up and down from a greenside bunker giving Zach the victory.
Zach Johnson opted for the always reliable DryJoys Tour golf shoe and StaSof golf glove during his winning performance.
Unreal shot! So happy for Zach! Great guy and great Iowan!
WHAT A GREAT FINISH
I like his Midwestern disposistion. He never gets excited one way or the other. He works hard and just grinds it out.
Very glad to see Zach Johnson came up top!
It was a display of great golf that was fun to watch. Well done ZJ! To celebrate, we should all buy a pair MyJoy DryJoy Tour shoes! Even better, a sweepstakes?
Terrible shot (regulation 18th), followed by a remarkable (kinda lucky) shot, then a big Xmas gift from Tiger. Great goin', Zack.
What a great finish to this tournament. After dropping a shot in the hazard and then holing out the next shot must have really been a jaw dropper for anyone watching. His commitment to the short game is unbelievable. On one of the days prior to the DB Championship, I stopped by the club to check in. Who do I see putting at dusk on the green, Zach. He had just finished working on his short game and then slid onto the putting green for a little night putting.....
Glad to see his finish with a victory in 2013.
The wedge man.....love to see him hit those Vokey's......and finishing strong against the world's number one player and finishing him off in a playoff....to the victor goes the spoils....great job Zach....
Following the last two pairings Bubba/Matt and Tiger/Zach for most of the day, you just knew some drama was in store for us on the 18th hole. While we waited patiently by the ropes just left of the green, the crowd seemed to favor Tiger when Zach's ball fell into the hazard. However, when he took his shot from the drop zone and holed it out...the crowd shifted in his favor with a roar like no other. I maybe a Tiger fan, but Zach won me over this day...CONGRATULATIONS ZACH!
One of the best finishes I have seen in a long time. To be able to execute the hole out on number 18 after hitting it in the water was unbelievable. Great way to finish and thanks for keeping us on the edge of our seats!
