Johnson Wins the John Deere in an All FJ Playoff

Zach Johnson is no stranger to winning on the PGA Tour and this weekend the former Master's Champion added another to his victory total with a win at the John Deere Classic.

Johnson, in DryJoys Tour and StaSof, fired a final round six under par 65 to jump in front of 54 hole leader Troy Matteson.  Now two strokes back with two to play, Matteson (DryJoys Tour) jarred a 60 foot eagle putt to tie the Johnson's clubhouse lead at 20 under par.  Making par on the last, the two players would head back on the course for a sudden death playoff.

On the first playoff hole both players exchanged head scratching double bogeys and headed back to the 18th tee for the third time today.  This time Johnson rifled his 190 yard fairway bunker approach to within a foot of the cup.  Matteson needed more late day heroics to have any chance to extend the playoff but missed his birdie bid giving Zach a tap in for the victory.  Johnson converted the tap in making him the 2012 John Deer Classic Champion.

Zach later stated of his clutch playoff approach shot, “I think we’re stating the obvious...That was my shot of the week.”

This is Zach's ninth win on the PGA Tour and second of the season.  The win also moves Zach to second in the FedEx Cup standings.

  • Dramatic come from behind win.

What a way to seal the deal!!!

    Congratulations Zach.

Great Win for Zach and Footjoy.

    -ICONs for ALL

  • Good win Zach good player good family man

  • Great stuff by Zach.  Glad he won since Strick fell short of the 4-peat.  Means alot to ZJ to win the JDC!

  • I'm happy to see Zach Johnson win the John Deere, a great victory and one that I'm sure means alot to him being a "home game".

  • ZJ with FJ at JDC...Sweet!

Congrats to Zack the FJ team.

  • Great play and hanging tough all day, Zach was a very popular winner.

  • Just a great shot on the second playoff hole by Zach. That second shot leading up and onto the green was something we all would like to have happen. Now Zach has one of his major goals over with and he can go after all the other goals he has set for himself. My best wishes for more continued success for Zach as he has, and still is, one of the Pro golfers that deserves our continued support for his true sportsmanship ideals.

  • Another knuckle biting win for the FJ Team @ JDC....Congrats ZJ on your win and 'shot of the week' !  Here's to continued success as the tour continues ....

  • Who knew that both players on the sudden death hole would have Double Bogeys, but Zach was able to finish with a tremendous second shot from the trap. Great job.

  • Unreal bunker shot.

  • got to meet Zach on Thursday at the Iowa Hawkeye hospitality tent off of number 15 at the JD Classic.  Very down to earth and engaged in some talks about the wedges.  He told me that he likes older models of the Vokes and that the SM4's have too much of a high ball flight.

Awesome day and glad he pulled it off

  • too bad for stricks, but johnson is a good champion!

  • great shot out of the bunker Zach! very impressive and clutch
