FJ player Matteo Manassero shot a 4-under 67 in the final round to win the Castello Masters and become the youngest winner ever on the European Tour. Manassero wore FJ Sport style #53102 and a StaSof glove en route to victory.

At 17 years and 188 days old the Italian teenager beat the previous record set by the winner of the 2008 Johnnie Walker Championship who was 18 years and 113 days

"I am too young to have a drink, I am too young to drive so I will not be buying a car and I have not got a girlfriend who would like a present," he said.

"But this was my first chance to win a tournament, which I never thought would come so quickly and to do it is unbelievable. My first aim when I turned professional was to win enough money to keep my card for next year and I achieved that in September."

Manassero started the final round at the Club de Campo Del Mediterraneo two shots behind the overnight leader. But at 16-under he eventually won by four shots.

  • Another win for FJ.   We'll be seeing more of Matteo.   He's got the game.

  • Impressive victory.

  • I don't care how good he may be. As I've written elsewhere, one more kid will not get a college education. One more kid prematurely gives up getting an education in hopes of striking it rich in pro golf. And one more kid will lose all the benefits of a liberal arts education to help him for the rest of his life.

All of these hot young players who think they will be world beaters are just one bad injury away from having to find an everyday job in the real world outside of pro golf. And a 17 year old with no college isn't going to fare very well in that world and won't have the intellectual skills and knowledge to help himself. It's a mistake for this kid and for every kid who gives up the chance to go to college.

  • Yes, very impressive win for a 17 yr old. D way he handled himself at that age going against a host of top seasoned European Tour players is commendable. Extremely bright future ahead. Keep it up laddy

  • who needs a college education when you can make a fortune playing golf?

  • I hope he decides to play a few PGA tournaments in the US.

  • Very Good Manaserro those shoes are very nice and comfortable.

    Hurra Manaserro
