FootJoy, the #1 Shoe in Golf and #1 Shoe on every Tour Worldwide, announced today that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Padraig Harrington. Following a historic 2008 season in which he captured two major championships, was named PGA Tour Player of the Year and The European Tour Golfer of the Year, Harrington will add yet another “#1” to his resume when he laces up the #1 Shoe in Golf in 2009. Harrington will wear the new SYNR-G shoe, which debuts January 1. A perfect combination of comfort and stability, SYNR-G is engineered for players such as Harrington who possess higher swing speeds and demand additional support and motion control in their golf shoes. Padraig will be featured in new FootJoy television advertisements as well as print and online creative throughout the year. For more on SYNR-G, visit the microsite at www.footjoy.com/synrg. "FootJoy is a brand that just about every young golfer is brought up wearing, and I was no different," said Harrington. “The belief should be that you are using the very best shoes available, which will give you an edge over the field. The new SYNR-G shoes from FootJoy are fantastic. They support the foot well throughout the golf swing, which is so important to hitting solid, powerful shots.” Long considered one of Europe's most talented and popular athletes, Padraig has enjoyed a steady ascension up the world golf rankings to his current position as the #4 ranked player. His climb to elite player status escalated rapidly after he captured the Volvo Order of Merit as the top player in Europe in 2006. He validated that title by winning his national open at the 2007 Irish Open and then capturing his first major weeks later at the 2007 British Open Championship at Carnoustie. Harrington doubled his pleasure last year, winning two majors. He first defended his crown at the British Open at Royal Birkdale in July and then won the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills C.C just weeks later. Throughout his career, Harrington has amassed 16 International victories, 5 PGA Tour victories including 3 major championships and he’s been selected to 5 European Ryder Cup teams. “We are thrilled to welcome Padraig Harrington to Team FJ,” said Rob Kelley, Director of Brand Marketing for FootJoy. “Padraig not only brings an unparalleled record of worldwide success but also an intimate knowledge of the research and technology behind footwear development.”

  • Great stuff guys! I know Padraig has been working on his game with Dave and Greg and this just goes to show that he isn't leaving anything to chance in 2009.

I like his chances for a Harrington Slam.

  • Welcome Padraig. Great to have you on team FJ!

  • Do you make a golf shoe with velcro straps instead of laces?

  • do you make a golf shoe with velco straps instead of laces?

  • I only wear Footjoys. I have norrow feet and  many foot problems, the Reel fit are the greatest shoe ever.

  • I have worn FootJoy golf shoes for many years.  I usually buy GreenJoy not being able to afford the better shoe.  Great shoe, keeps my feet fit.

  • I have worn footjoy for 35 years. With size 14 comfort counts on the course. And they have great style in both DryJoy and Classic.

  • To a great team in 09. Good Luck and see you at Bethpage.

  • Sorry, Tom. At this time we do not make a golf shoe with velcro straps.

  • If I am right, then your President Elect who has been in the news quite a lot recently and is quite popular (to make an understatement?), has been seen playing golf a fair bit during the festive break.

And if I'm still right, he's been seen wearing FootJoy Classics Dry Premieres - as reported (or at best speculated) on my golf shoes blog (http://www.golf-shoes-blog.com)

If I'm right, then why aren't you shouting from the roof tops.  No mention on your sites!!!

Please visit my blog site and see the recent comments and the trail of the shoe I've been on AND which I'd have expected every brand to be praying was theirs!

    Thanks, Tate

  • Congrats to you Padraig!! Welcome to the finest shoe in golf today. You won't be disappointed with the comfort, stability through the shot and the great looks. FJ the leader in shoes today!! Best of luck in '09

  • Tomorrow marks 2 years since I retired from a career in coal mining.  One of the retirement gifts I received from my Son was a pair of Footjoy Contour shoes.  I had worn out many pairs of golf shoes in the past, and this was my first experience with Footjoys.  I wish I had bought them earlier in life.  They are the best I have ever worn.  They are comfortable and keep my feet dry.  Thanks for a great product!

  • To be the best, wear the best. Welcome aboard!

  • Well, I guess we need to welcome you, too, Paul! Congratulations on your retirement and your new pair of Contours. We're glad to have you aboard Team FJ.

  • Paddy Harrington is a class act and you made a wise choice affiliating your company with him.  Many professional athletes can learn something from this gentleman and family man.  There are two types of class, first and none and Paddy is certainly first class in my book.  All of the best for 2009.

    Regards,

    John
