How do the new FJ Icon shoes compare to the Classic Dry Premier shoe in terms of comfort? It is a bit disappointing that I will not be able to get CDPs in the future, these are all I have worn for many years.

Well, this is a tough question to answer as everyone's feet are different but we can assure you that the new FJ ICON shoes have several new advancements that should give you a very comfortable and precise fit and ride in addition to the stability and performance you expect from premium FootJoy golf shoes. We actually borrowed some of the technology found in other best selling categories like SYNR-G (memory foam lined collar/tongue) and DryJoys (Dual OptiFlex Zones in the outsole) so FJ ICON truly represents the "best of the best" FootJoy technology. One sentiment that I can share from speaking with the Tour pros and from wearing them myself, is that FJ ICON is lighter and the CDP's, especially in wet conditions. But, like I said, everyone is different. All I can recommend is that you go to your nearest FJ dealer and try them on for yourself!  Please let us know if you would like more information/comparisons and we'll do our best to respond.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hunter Mahan in FJ ICON at AT&T

    Add Comment

Hunter was wearing FJ ICON style #52112 (white smooth/black croc print/black smooth shield tip) yesterday as he shot a course record-tying 62 during the final round of the AT&T National. Since he generally only wears the shield tip pattern, it will be interesting what he does with the all MyJoys options!

Chris has already posted some great slideshows from the Open Championship on the FootJoy Blog, but just today we saw Nick Watney lace up a pair of FJ ICON for the first time in competition.  He is wearing style 52070.

  • FJ ICON Sport pattern - thoughts?

    Add Comment

This FJ ICON Sport pattern wasn't my favorite pattern when I first saw it, but it's growing on me FAST. It's amazing all the players that are wearing it at the Open, including Rory McIlroy, Nick Watney, Lee Westwood and David Toms. Camilo wore it at the US Open. It's hot right now! What do you guys think of it?

  • Black sock talk

    Add Comment

Lot of discussion internally about the proper socks to wear with khakis. So what would you wear with this combo? I thought it strange to wear black socks with this combo but others said black socks are pretty universal and can be worn with anything. What do you think? What would you have worn here?

Another FJ ICON sighting at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.  Fresh from an FJ print ad shoot (along with Ian Poulter, Camilo Villegas, and Hunter Mahan), Rory hit the course in a traditional white tumbled FJ ICON style #52005.

Traditional and simple.  What are your thoughts on this one?

Having read the posts on this forum I was resigned to not being able to get hold of the new FJ Icon Style # 52088 until mid to late September.

Imagine my luck when I was out at Liberty National GC today for a meeting and stopped by the pro shop - great looking pro shop by the way.

10 mins later I was the owner of a brand new pair of Icon's style 52088 in black - great style, incredible comfort.

Can't wait to head back home to Scotland in a couple of weeks and wear them on the great golfing links of Royal Dornoch, The Old Course, Muirfield, Prestwick and Kingsbarns...might even keep them on for the post round Macalllan scotch!

    Thanks Footjoy!

I just ordered up a new pair of the FJ Icon with the BOA lacing system! I got to try out the new contour they have with the same BOA system and it felt just amazing! The Icon I did not get to try on yet, but everything seems to fit the same with FJ so I think I will be fine with my usual size.

Anyone else out there that has the shoes already or has them on order? What are your thoughts on the BOA lacing system?

How will the Icon Laser Last compare to the FJ Classics last?  I am going to pull the trigger on a pair of Icons asap and was wondering if I should go up, down, or keep the same size and width.  Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated.

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

I just spoke with Mike Foley, Dir. of Footwear Marketing and he provided this response to your question:

"The ICON laser last was developed to fit the same as the Classics Laser last from heel up to the ball of the foot.  The only difference is the modified contemporary toe shape on the ICON laser last which will offer a little more room in the forepart of the shoe.  The primary fit characteristics should be the same overall and should not necessitate a size change."

    Hope this helps?

Perhpas one of the FJ staff could advise when the new Icons will be available in Canadian retail stores?

    Hi Stew --

Just talked to my contact at FJ Canada and she said that there will likely be FJ ICON stock availability in November, but they will be available on a special order basis starting September 1.

    Hope this helps.

I cant decide whether the feel of the SYNR-G's is worth it to wear them because i like the looks of CDPs, and ICONs, etc. so much better. Are they really that comfortable?

I know my posts probably come with a certain level of bias, but you really can't go wrong with either SYNR-G or FJ ICON in terms of comfort. The introduction of memory foam around the collar and in the tongue of the SYNR-G shoe, which you will also find in the FJ ICON line, positions these shoes above anything else on the market for fit and comfort. I would suggest you try them both on. The comfort should be very similar in both so it may just come down to style preference.

Those pictures of the MyJoy's from Chris are wonderful.  I don't know that it's going to be possible to choose/make just ONE PAIR.  Wow, those white/orange ones are great and I loved the office idea for the spikeless asymetrical's.  Well done, FJ... but please, STOP TEASING US!! :)

Jumped in a couple days ago... how is the winner picked?  Just a random drawing?

    EMK -

We gather all the entries from each sweepstakes period (in this case Monday 12:00AM - Sunday 11:59PM) and our contest engine randomly picks the winner (number of winners depends on each specific sweepstakes).  This contest runs for 4 weeks and we pick 2 winners per week for a total of 8 lucky winners.  You can enter once each week, so make sure to come back and get your weekly entry in.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike, one more questions though, if someone wins this week (i.e. me... I can hope right?) can I re-enter for the next drawing?  Or in the spirit of fairness opt out?

I would personally not re-enter but I was curious to find out if you had a "block" on the winnners to prevent re-entry?

Good luck to everyone who entered the contest!

Good question.  You can only win once per sweepstakes (so in this case, once over the 4 week run).  We review the winners names, email and home addresses each week.  That said, if we run another FJ ICON sweepstakes later on in the year or into 2010, you are certainly eligible to enter and win again.

The rules are written like this ...

"The winner of any prize hereunder is not eligible to win any further prizes in this Sweepstakes."

For complete official rules, you can click here

Is the drawing in the morning?  Definitely have my fingers crossed too!

Yes, the drawing took place programmatically at 12:01AM this morning.

We had over 10,000 entries this week for the 2 pairs of FJ ICON shoes.  We are still verifying the winners, but they hail from Venice, FL and Blackstone, MA.

We will post them on the microsite and on the "Sweepstakes" page of the community some time today.

  • ICON Break-In

    Add Comment

Can someone lucky enough to have a pair or 2 give a little advice?  I'm holding out for the MyJoys, but hoping to get the fit right the first time.  As the ICONs break in, do you find much loosening or stretching from original, out of the box fit, or does it stay fairly consistent?  I have found that generally, the Classics stayed very true to original fit, but some of the other sport type shoes felt like they loosened up a little more - maybe because of the memory foam??  (which is in the ICON now...).  Would anyone recommend I go with a fit that's a little more snug out of the box??

    Thanks!
