  • Crane Wins in Malaysia, Earns 2nd Consecutive Win for DryJoys Tour

    Add Comment

Ben Crane won the inaugural Asia Pacific Classic on Sunday, eagling the par-4 15th and making an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win by a stroke. The win is the second consecutive for players wearing the new DryJoys Tour, following Jonathan Byrd's dramatic victory in Las Vegas.

Crane, who wore DryJoys Tour style #53635 and Pure Touch Limited, closed with a 2-under 69 at The Mines Resort to finish at 18 under and earned $1 million in the first PGA Tour-sanctioned event in Southeast Asia.

After making three straight bogeys to fall a stroke behind, Crane drove the green on the 15th and holed his 8-foot eagle putt to regain the lead. After falling into a tie heading to 18, Crane avoided a playoff with his winning birdie.

Crane won the Farmers Insurance Open in January at Torrey Pines for his third career PGA TOUR victory. The win Sunday in the 40-player event -- also sanctioned by the Asian Tour -- doesn't count as an official PGA TOUR victory.

"I had a great opportunity with that putt (on 18) which I'll always remember. I was so nervous and I was just praying. I just wanted to hit a good putt and to see it go into the hole. It felt so good," said Crane.

"I just regrouped (after 14) and didn't get ahead of myself. I knew I was still in the tournament. I hit an unbelievable shot on 15 with my driver and that kind of turned things around. It was an exciting turnaround. That was an unbelievable finish," he said.

  • Ben Crane Wins All FJ Playoff

Ben Crane was an afterthought beginning Sunday's final round three strokes off the 54 hole lead.  Crane wearing DryJoys Tour and Pure Touch Limited, started his final round with seven straight pars before switching his game into overdrive on the par-4 eight by making his first birdie of the day.  He would follow the birdie on eight with three more birdies over the next three holes.  A bogey on number 12 only momentarily slowed Crane, as he made four more consecutive birdies from 14 through 17 to enter a tie at the top of the leaderboard with the two time 2011 winner Webb Simpson (FJ ICON #52039).

Both players would complete 72 holes at 15 under par to force the 18th playoff of the year on the PGA Tour.  Beginning the playoff both players had something to prove; Crane, to win his first tourney of 2011 and Simpson a possible PGA Tour money title.  Crane made the first move hitting his approach shot into the par-4 18th to six feet.  Simpson would respond, hitting a tricky greenside bunker shot into tap in range.  Crane's birdie putt narrowly missed the hole and both players left with a par.  Both players would find the green on the par-3 17th.  Simpson would putt first, lagging his put to three feet.  Playing more aggressively, Crane ran his putt five feet by the hole, leaving himself a tough putt for par, but poured it into the center of the cup putting the pressure on Simpson.  With a short putt to extend the Playoff Simpson would miss making Crane the 2011 McGladrey Classic winner.

D.A. Points came back from a nearly three hour rain delay to win the Shell Houston Open by one stroke over Henrik Stenson and Billy Horschel.

Beginning the day one back, Points made six birdies in the first 14 holes, racing to a one stroke lead before play ceased.  With a two year PGA Tour exemption and a Masters invitation on the line, D.A. made clutch pars on the final four holes including up and downs on the final two to post the clubhouse lead at 16 under.  No one could catch the total, which gave D.A. his second PGA tour victory.

Points trusted his XPS-1 golf shoes and FJ Sciflex glove en route to his win, "The XPS-1 gives me the comfort and stability I need to play my best golf."  Continuing, "The SciFlex fits my hand and is breathable for the hot conditions we always play in."

Seven different FJ styles graced the top 25 of the Shell Houston Open. D.A. opted for max stability of the XPS-1, second place finisher Billy Horschel went for fashion forward performance in FJ Icon MyJoys.  Other players in the top 25, Ben Crane in Contour, Oothuizen in DryJoys Tour, Bill Haas in FJ Sport, Westwood in FJ Icon, and Wheatcroft in the M:Project.  FJ truly has a shoe for every golfer and every swing.
