  • Steven Bowditch Locks Up the Valero Texas Open

    Add Comment

Steven Bowditch battled through blustery conditions on a difficult TPC San Antonio golf course to win the Valero Texas Open.

The 30 year old Australian began Sunday's final round with a three stroke lead thanks to three rounds in the sixties that placed him at 12 under par.  Bowditch dropped a few shots early, but remained atop the leaderboard as his chasers also fell victim to the difficult, windy conditions.  On the back nine, a birdie on the par 5 - 14th hole helped pad his lead. Heading to the final hole with a two stroke advantage, Bowditch made a bogey but it would be enough to take home his first PGA Tour win.

Bowditch relied on on XPS-1 golf shoes and the StaSof golf glove all week in Texas.

The win punches Bowditch's ticket to the Masters, the Players and the PGA Championship.

  • Home of Golf Heaven for Howell

    Add Comment

David Howell celebrated his first European Tour title in seven years by beating Peter Uihlein in a sudden-death play-off at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Howell wearing DryJoys Tour™ golf shoes and a SciFlex™ glove, carded a final round of 67 to set the clubhouse target at St Andrews and then watched as overnight leader Uihlein  (XPS-1™ & Pure Touch®) missed from 15 feet for a winning birdie on the 18th, meaning the pair finished tied on 23 under par.

Playing the first hole at St Andrews to begin the play-off, both players narrowly missed long birdie attempts but Howell, who had lost all four of his previous play-offs, made no such mistake from eight feet to claim the title and first prize of €589,561.

Uihlein began the day with a two-shot lead but a combination of a three-putt bogey at the first and a blistering start from France's Thomas Levet saw that instantly wiped out.

Levet (FJ ICON™) briefly led by two shots when he opened with five straight birdies and also picked up a shot on the seventh, but faded over the closing stretch and saw his hopes ended by driving out of bounds on the 14th. He did have the consolation of winning the pro-am competition however.

Howell’s victory at St. Andrews lifts him to the top of the European Ryder Cup Points List and to 12th on the Race to Dubai, guaranteeing qualification for the season finale DP World Tour Championship - where the Dubai resident will make his debut from the 14-17 November.

The 38 year old also jumps 82 places in the Official World Golf Rankings to 94.

"I have never played in an Open Championship here but to win a golf tournament as a professional at the Home of Golf is quite amazing and I am really thrilled” stated Howell.

"I was really nervous all week and strangely less nervous today - I can't explain that at all. I stayed calm and smooth under pressure and that was really pleasing”.

  • D.A. Points Takes Home the Shell Houston Open

D.A. Points came back from a nearly three hour rain delay to win the Shell Houston Open by one stroke over Henrik Stenson and Billy Horschel.

Beginning the day one back, Points made six birdies in the first 14 holes, racing to a one stroke lead before play ceased.  With a two year PGA Tour exemption and a Masters invitation on the line, D.A. made clutch pars on the final four holes including up and downs on the final two to post the clubhouse lead at 16 under.  No one could catch the total, which gave D.A. his second PGA tour victory.

Points trusted his XPS-1 golf shoes and FJ Sciflex glove en route to his win, "The XPS-1 gives me the comfort and stability I need to play my best golf."  Continuing, "The SciFlex fits my hand and is breathable for the hot conditions we always play in."

Seven different FJ styles graced the top 25 of the Shell Houston Open. D.A. opted for max stability of the XPS-1, second place finisher Billy Horschel went for fashion forward performance in FJ Icon MyJoys.  Other players in the top 25, Ben Crane in Contour, Oothuizen in DryJoys Tour, Bill Haas in FJ Sport, Westwood in FJ Icon, and Wheatcroft in the M:Project.  FJ truly has a shoe for every golfer and every swing.

  • Padraig Harrington's Special Laces

    Add Comment

If you have watched or followed golf in the past two years there is a good chance you have seen three time major champion, Padraig Harrington on the television.  You may have also noticed something that looks a little different on his XPS-1's and thought to yourself, "What are those big red laces in his FootJoy's?"

These laces are adorned with the Special Olympics logo and according to Padraig, "I am sending a message of respect, acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities to millions of golf fans around the world”

Harrington has been very hands on during his time with the program, often visiting Special Olympic athletes and coaches to conduct golf training sessions.

Paddy became a spokesman for the Special Olympics back in May 2010 and selflessly demonstrates his support stating, "I am proud to be part of the Wear the Laces for Special Olympics initiative, tied together with my friends at Special Olympics; which I hope will raise awareness for the movement.”

The Wear the Laces campaign is simple: purchase red Special Olympics shoelaces online at www.wearthelaces.org and lace up your shoes!

The aim of the campaign is to raise vital funds and awareness for Special Olympics internationally, so that together we can create a world in which the largest disability population on earth leads healthy, vibrant lives, grounded in sports, health, and the determination to demonstrate their personal best to themselves and their communities.

You can order your laces online at http://www.gbnonline.co.uk/specialolympics  or www.wearthelaces.org

The strong field and major-esque venue has created much buzz around this event, leading to the first ever sell out of a non-major European Tour event!  With the British Open just around the corner, many FJ players are using this as a tune up for next month's major at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.  FJ Ambassadors, Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington are looking to give their thousands of local followers a good showing this week, hopefully with a win!

It should be a great week of golf on the rustic Northern Irish coastline.

  • Dufner Does It Again in Dallas

    Add Comment

Jason Dufner (XPS-1 and FJ Apparel) won the HP Byron Nelson Championship in dramatic fashion by holing a 25 foot birdie putt on the last hole of regulation to win by one over fellow FJ staffer, Dicky Pride (FJ Sport and SciFlex).

Beginning the day with the lead, Dufner fell behind with early bogeys on two and three.  He bounced back quickly with a birdie on the fourth, fifth, and seventh holes to join the leaders at nine under par.

He added a birdie at ten to retake the lead alone.   Dufner, first in greens in regulation and second in driving accuracy, birdied the sixteenth hole to keep pace with surging playing competitors.  On the final hole, with a hazard left and trees right, Dufner launched his tee ball straight up the middle.  With only a short wedge shot left, Dufner played a shot to the middle of the green, 25 feet from the pin.  He then poured in the downhill, right to left putt for the one stroke victory.

Post round Dufner stated, "You probably couldn't dream it any better than what's been going on here" Continuing, "The wedding has been in the works for close to a year, so we know that's been coming around the corner. And there's been a lot of good golf since then, but to win two events and get married in the span of 22 days, pretty remarkable."

This is Dufner's second win in his past three starts.  The win also moves him to the top spot on the FedEx Cup leaderboard and into third place on the Ryder Cup points list.

  • Red Hot Ricardo

    Add Comment

FJ loyalist Ricardo Santos (XPS-1 & StaSof) fired a stunning nine under par 63 on home soil in the final round of the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal to claim his maiden European Tour title.

The 29 year old delighted the home crowds as he overhauled the overnight leader and withstood the challenge of the rest of the field to finish four shots clear on 22 under par – a record low total for the event.  Santos, a 2011 Challenge Tour graduate, produced a nerveless, flawless performance when it mattered most, however, sinking a monster putt on the 17th to all but guarantee victory and then adding gloss to the finish with another birdie at the last.

He is the first Portuguese player to win a European Tour event in his home country, and he said: “It is very emotional and I haven’t got the words to describe how I feel.  To win my first European Tour event in my own country is very special. The putt on the 17th was unbelievable, and I knew then that victory was mine."

Santos was 105th in The Race to Dubai heading into this event, largely thanks to finishing tied tenth in the Avantha Masters in February, but rises to 50th with the €112,500 earned for this victory.

  • Jason Dufner Claims First PGA Tour Victory in Louisiana

    Add Comment

Jason Dufner has been on the cusp of winning several tournaments in the past two years and today he fulfilled his potential by claiming the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Through the first three rounds of play, Dufner shot rounds of 67-65-67 to sit atop the leaderboard at 17-under par, two clear of his competition heading into Sunday's final round.

Dufner, wearing XPS-1 and FJ Apparel, started off the day with five straight pars before a bogey on the sixth hole that dropped him from the lead.  He rebounded quickly with back-to-back birdies on seven and eight to retake the top spot.  Dufner added another birdie at 10 to retain his lead.  Then after several gutsy back nine par saves, Dufner's drive on the par four 16th found a hazard.  With an alligator lurking nearby, Dufner wisely took a drop and hit his ball to the right side of the green.  Now looking at 40-plus feet for par to stay tied for the lead, Dufner calmly rolled in the improbable putt to keep his momentum.  After grinding out two more pars on 17 and 18, Dufner was headed to a sudden death playoff.

Both players exchanged pars on the opening playoff hole and they headed back to the 18th tee for the third time today.  This time Dufner seized the moment, hitting the par five 18th in two shots and making a routine two putts for birdie and the victory.  This is Dufner's first PGA Tour win.  Post round Dufner stated of his winning performance, "I am really, really excited and to get the monkey off my back is a great feeling".

Luke Donald (FJ ICON MyJoys) also put on an impressive performance, shooting a final round 67 to finish solo third and retaking the number one spot on the Official World Golf Rankings.
